Chris Nikic Wants to Be the First IM Finisher With Down Syndrome

We really have to be mindful of how we speak to ourselves. Our inner chatter can be so self-limiting. In Chris Nikic’s mind, nothing is insurmountable. And when people tell Chris he can’t do something, he simply says: “watch me and I’m going to prove you wrong.”

Chris is registered to compete November 7 at the Florida Ironman race in Panama City Beach with the goal to be the first Ironman Finisher with Down Syndrome (assuming the race isn’t cancelled or postponed due to COVID, but even if that happens the plan is to make their own course and just do it!)

For Chris, crossing the finish line would signify much more. “It means I can achieve my dreams and take care of myself,” he says. “It also means I can inspire others like me to go after their dreams.”
